Vietnam-based steelmaker Hoa Phat Group has announced that it has shipped the first containers after two years of investing in a container factory project. 100 of the 20ft containers, produced from the company’s own SPA-H grade hot rolled coil, have been delivered to Vietnamese shipping company New Way Lines Company.

The company’s container factory currently has an annual capacity of 200,000 TEU (twenty-feet equivalent unit), positioning Hoa Phat as the largest container manufacturer in Southeast Asia. The factory’s capacity will be expanded to an annual 500,000 TEU, focusing on popular container products in the range of 20-40 feet. With this capacity, the factory could consume an annual one million mt of HRC from Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Complex and Dung Quat 2 Project.

The parties have signed a new contract for delivery of 500 of the 20ft containers.
