As of January 1, 2008, Vietnam has changed its export duty for various products to comply with the ASEAN harmonized tariff nomenclature (AHTN) and with the country's WTO commitments.

According to the new tariff structure, the export duty for metal scrap has decreased from 33 percent to 30 percent, while the export duty for processed metals has increased from five to seven percent, and has risen from 10 to 15 percent for unprocessed metals.
