Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale said on Friday it received a notice from local mining regulator, ANM, allowing it to resume operations at its Alegria mine, although the company did not provide a specific timeline to resume activities.

Vale halted output at its Alegria mine in March this year, following the Brumadinho disaster, which killed 270 people in January 2019. The company said it would recover about 8 million mt/year in capacity, as it resumes the Alegria mine, out of the 50 million mt/year capacity affected by Brumadinho.

The company noted that resuming the Alegria mine would not change the company’s iron ore sales forecast for the year. Vale expects to sell between 307-332 million mt of iron ore and pellets in 2019.
