Vale reviews Mozambique's coal operations due to coronavirus

Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale said is considering a halt in coal processing activities at its Mozambique plant.

The company initially planned to halt activities by Q2, but Vale decided last year to shift the focus of its Mozambique plant to produce more metallurgical coal, which is used in steelmaking, instead of thermal coal.

Vale said the recent coronavirus outbreak might change the plant’s expected halt from Q2 to a new date, which is yet to be announced

Vale said the need to change the date for a halt at its Mozambique coal plant is due to travel and equipment transport restrictions the miner is currently facing, following the coronavirus outbreak.
