A mega iron ore carrying vessel of Brazilian miner Vale arrived in China for the first time at the Port of Dalian on Wednesday, December 28, according to media reports. Vale's 388,000 ton vessel, Berge Everest, is expected to unload and leave the port on Saturday.
Vale had been waiting for Beijing's approval for six months after China refused to allow such vessels to even stop at Chinese ports. In June, Brazilian miner's first mega vessel, Vale Brasil, destined for the Port of Dalian, China, was diverted to Italy.
Chinese shipowners and steelmakers have shown strong opposition to Vale's fleet with which the miner will be able to control both the shipping and iron ore market.
