Brazilian miner Vale has completed 7 percent of repair works following the Brumadinho disaster, according to an independent committee panel aimed at helping Vale repair the dam. The committee is following up on repair works to the environment and assistance to the victims of the deadly dam burst.

The independent group said Vale made efforts to work on 87 percent of the committee’s recommendations.

Out of Vale’s commitment to tackle 87 percent of the panel’s recommendations, the miner accomplished 7 percent so far, and has ongoing efforts in another 47 percent of suggested initiatives.

The panel said Vale’s repair plan is yet to be concluded, also suggesting Vale should adopt a monitoring system for checking, among other things, the conclusion of repair works with indicators, in both the short and long terms.

The document said thus far Vale has closed 1,450 indemnity deals with 3,100 people, which represents BRL 1.6 billion ($354.7 million).
