US wire rod imports up 37.6 percent in October

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 67,959 mt in October 2019, up 37.6 percent from September and up 6.4 percent from October 2018 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $48.9 million in October 2019, compared to $37.5 million in the previous month and $51.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in October, with 27,907 mt, compared to 26,880 mt in September and 27,409 mt in October 2018. Other top sources of imported wire rod in October include Japan, with 12,798 mt; Brazil, with 8,614 mt; Morocco, with 6,097 mt; and Korea, with 4,738 mt.
