US wire rod imports up 3.3 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 75,238 mt in July 2018, up 3.3 percent from June but down 47.1 percent from July 2017 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $55.2 million in July 2018, compared to $55.8 million in the previous month and $82.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in July, with 23,155 mt, compared to 29,162 mt in June and 26,021 mt in July 2017. Other top sources of imported wire rod in July include Japan, with 16,845 mt; Morocco, with 9,997 mt; Greece, with 9,993 mt; Germany, with 8,170 mt; and Egypt, with 4,364 mt.
