US wire rod imports down 44.2 percent in November

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 37,901 mt in November 2019, down 44.2 percent from October and down 62.8 percent from November 2018 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $28.7 million in November 2019, compared to $48.9 million in the previous month and $77.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in November, with 18,787 mt, compared to 27,907 mt in October and 25,062 mt in November 2018. Other top sources of imported wire rod in November include Japan, with 18,068 mt. There were no other significant sources (1,000 mt or more) of US wire rod imports in November.
