US wire rod imports down 13.3 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 65,769 mt in August 2019, down 13.3 percent from July and down 37.9 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $49.8 million in August 2019, compared to $57.1 million in the previous month and $77.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in August, with 24,580 mt, compared to 22,231 mt in July and 28,248 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported wire rod in August include Japan, with 23,036 mt; India, with 5,366 mt; Korea, with 5,221 mt; and Brazil, with 4,627 mt.
