US weekly raw steel production increases 0.9 percent

On Monday, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that US raw steel production rose 0.9 percent last week (ended August 4), after falling 0.5 percent a week ago.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,863,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.9 percent increase from the 1,846,000 nt produced in the previous week, and 1.0 percent higher than the 1,844,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 75.4 percent in the week ending August 4, compared to 74.7 percent in the previous week and 75.4 percent in the same week last year.
