US envoy to India Kenneth Juster announced this week that the US would offer India defense technology with a focus on jet fighter platform and transfer technology. He said, “This will enable India to build an entire ecosystem for companies to help produce jet fighter aircraft in the country.”

The transfer of the technology is being facilitated by India’s membership into two of the four multilateral export control regimes–the Wassenaar Arrangement and the Missile Technology Control Regime. India is also being supported by the US for joining the Australia Group on chemical and biological weapons and the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

NSG membership will facilitate firms making larger investments in defense technology including building partnerships for the development of steel and aluminum products locally to meet the required specifications of the industry.

In January, Ambassador Juster also stated that the US sees India as a leading power in the Indo-Pacific region, a regional hub for American businesses, and an “alternative to US businesses facing challenges in China.”
