US Steel Kosice objects to EC request

Slovakia-based steelmaker US Steel Kosice announced its disappointment regarding the European Commission's (EC) recent report on Slovakia's CO2 emissions. In a recent press release, the EC demanded that the Slovakian government reduce its National Allocation Plan (NAP) for CO2 emissions by another 1.5 million tons. Upon the request of the EC, US Steel Kosice announced that it is not necessary for Slovakia to reduce its NAP for CO2 emissions in an effort to meet Kyoto requirements. US Steel Kosice claims that what the EC demands would limit the growth of industries and jobs in Slovakia. US Steel Kosice intends to initiate legal action against this request in an effort to protect its investment in Slovakia. Slovakia had already reduced its NAP for CO2 by 14 percent last year.
