US standard rail exports surge in August

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of standard rail totaled 13,360 mt in August 2018, up 222.8 percent from July and up 119.7 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, standard rail exports totaled $11.8 million in August, compared to $4.5 million in the previous month and $5.6 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most standard rail to Mexico in August with 7,646 mt, compared to 2,827 mt in July and 4,389 mt in August 2017. Other top destinations included Canada, with 5,622 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US standard rail exports in August.
