US rod mills file antidumping against China, Turkey, Germany
This morning, five domestic wire rod mills filed an antidumping suit against carbon and alloy wire rods from Turkey, China, and Germany. The petitioning mills are Connecticut Steel, Gerdau Ameristeel USA, Mittal Steel USA Georgetown, Keystone Consolidated Industries, and Rocky Mountain Steel. The petitioners allege antidumping margins of 330 percent for China, 42 percent to 83 percent for Germany, and 31 percent to 78 percent for Turkey. There are already antidumping orders against Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, Moldova, Trinidad and Tobago, and Ukraine from an antidumping filing in 2001. According to today's press release from Connecticut Steel Corporation, Gerdau Ameristeel, and Keystone, imports from the three countries in question have captured an increasing share of the US market in the past few years, increasing from 12 percent in 2002, to 23 percent in 2004, and reaching 28 percent of the domestic market in the first half of 2005. The entire investigative process takes usually more than a year, and final determinations of injury and dumping will occur in late 2006. The review will cover the period between October 1, 2004, through September 30, 2005. The product under investigation is 4.75-19.00 mm dia wire rods.
