US rebar imports down 64.1 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 55,531 mt in September 2023, down 64.1 percent from August and down 48.6 percent from September 2022 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $33.7 million in September 2023, compared to $93.8 million in August and $82.9 million in September 2022.

The US imported the most rebar from Egypt in September, with 25,329 mt, compared to 42,178 mt in August and zero tonnage in September 2022. Other top sources of imported rebar in September include Algeria, with 11,467 mt; Mexico, with 11,085 mt; and Canada, with 6,454 mt.
