The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production dropped 2.8 percent last week (ended September 8), following a 0.1 percent increase a week ago.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,811,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 2.8 percent decrease from the 1,864,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 2.6 percent decrease from the 1,860,000 nt produced in the same week a year ago.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 73.3 percent in the week ending September 8, compared to 75.4 percent in the previous week and 76.1 percent in the same week last year.
