US raw steel production falls again

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell 1.8 percent last week (ended June 9), following a 2.1 percent drop the previous week, and a 0.8 percent decline the week prior. Production levels particularly declined in the Midwest and Northeast.

Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,886,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.8 percent reduction from the 1,920,000 nt produced in the previous week, and just a 1.2 percent increase from the 1,864,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76.3 percent in the week ending June 9, compared to 77.7 percent in the previous week and 76.2 percent in the same week a year ago.
