US raw steel production down 0.7 percent week-on-week

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the week ending on June 16, 2018, domestic raw steel production was 1,740,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 74.2 percent. Production was 1,747,000 net tons in the week ending June 16, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 74.9 percent.

The current week production represents a 0.4 percent decline from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending June 16, 2018 is down 0.7 percent from the previous week ending June 9, 2018 when production was 1,753,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through June 16, 2018 was 42,061,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.4 percent. That is up 1.7 percent from the 41,344,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.4 percent.

By districts, the production for the week ending June 16, 2018 in thousands of net tons: North East: 217; Great Lakes: 630; Midwest: 172; Southern: 644 and Western: 77 for a total of 1740.
