US iron and steel scrap exports up 7.4 percent in May

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,665,578 mt in May 2018, a 7.4 percent increase month-on-month and a 45.6 percent increase year-on-year.

Mexico was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in May with 220,431 mt, which dropped 4.2 percent month-on-month but increased 43.1 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in May 2018 include: Turkey, with 215,238 mt; Egypt, with 198,404 mt; Taiwan, with 190,919 mt; and India, with 188,505 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $577.4 million in May 2018, a 4.8 percent increase compared to April and a 56.4 percent increase compared to May 2017.
