According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in September this year exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.16 million mt, decreasing by 26.2 percent from August, and down 24.7 percent compared to September 2013. The value of these exports decreased by 24 percent compared to August and by 20.2 percent year on year, amounting to $645.22 million.
Meanwhile, in the January-September period of this year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 11.59 million mt, decreasing by 19.4 percent year on year.
In September, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 369,738 mt, increasing by 15.1 percent compared to August and indicating a 25.4 percent decline year on year. Turkey was followed by Taiwan and South Korea, which respectively received 199,258 mt and 108,317 mt of scrap from the US in the given month. Meanwhile, Turkey was also the leading scrap export destination of the US in the first nine months, receiving 2.77 million mt, down 32.8 percent year on year.
