US iron and steel scrap exports down 17.7 percent in January-October

According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in October this year exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.33 million mt, rising by 14.85 percent from September, and up 1.5 percent compared to October 2013. The value of these exports increased by 11.7 percent compared to September and by 3.4 percent year on year, amounting to $547.9 million.

Meanwhile, in the January-October period of this year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 12.9 million mt, decreasing by 17.7 percent year on year.

In October, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 417,236 mt, increasing by 12.8 percent compared to September and indicating 23.1 percent growth year on year. Turkey was followed by Taiwan and South Korea, which respectively received 202,871 mt and 156,206 mt of scrap from the US in the given month. Meanwhile, Turkey was also the leading scrap export destination of the US in the first 10 months this year, receiving 3.2 million mt, down 28.6 percent year on year.
