According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), the top 12 export destinations for US iron and steel scrap totaled 5,961,982 mt in the first half of 2017, which accounts for 89 percent of the H1 2017 total of 6,728,004 mt. In H1 2017, the top 12 destinations remained the same as the same period in 2016 except for Vietnam, which replaced Kuwait in the top 12 list.
US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 5,890,130 mt in H1 2016. In the same period, the top 12 destination totaled 5,532,724 mt which accounted for 94 percent of the period’s total.
Overall, US scrap export volumes in H1 2017 increased by 14.23 percent compared to the same period a year ago. While most countries increased their purchase of US scrap exports, Turkey, India and Korea encountered substantial reductions year-on-year.
