US HRC imports rise 4.7 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports hot rolled sheets totaled 162,287 mt in April 2017, up 4.7 percent from March but down 15.5 percent from April 2016 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $102.6 million in April 2017, compared to $96.2 million in the previous month and $86.6 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HRC from Canada in April, with 68,446 mt, compared to 78,371 mt in March and 72,036 mt in April 2016. Other top sources of imported HRC in April include Japan, with 32,590 mt; Turkey, with 14,063 mt; Korea, with 8,656 mt; Egypt, with 8,429 mt; and Mexico, with 7,309 mt.
