US hot rolled bar imports down 7.5 percent in July

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 70,913 mt in July 2023, down 7.5 percent from June and down 16.5 percent from July 2022 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $95.8 million in July 2023, compared to $99.3 million in June and $117.9 million in July 2022.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in July, with 29,088 mt, compared to 30,431 mt in June and 30,083 in July 2022. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in July include Japan, with 12,584 mt; Mexico, with 4,502 mt; China, with 4,455 mt; and South Korea, with 4,307 mt.
