US cold finished bar imports drop 27.6 percent in September

According to census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold finished bar totaled 10,351 mt in September 2018, down 27.6 percent from August and down 33.9 percent from September 2017 levels. By value, cold finished bar imports totaled $15.6 million in September 2018, compared to $20.9 million in the previous month and $22.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cold finished bar from Germany in September, with 3,328 mt, compared to 3,861 mt in August and 3,039 mt in September 2017. Other top sources of imported cold finished bar in September include Canada, with 2,331 mt; and Italy, with 1,225 mt.
