According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 40,419 mt in January 2018, up 5.6 percent from December and up 16.9 percent from January 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $34.6 million in January, compared to $33.7 million in the previous month and $30.9 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most beam to Canada in January with 33,869 mt, compared to 28,133 mt in December and 28,563 mt in January 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 5,240 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in January.
