US and Canadian steel service center shipments see strong year-on-year gains in January

Steel service center shipments increased substantially in January, both in the United States and Canada, according to a report from the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI).
 
In January 2017, US service center steel shipments increased by 9.4 percent from January 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 8.3 percent from January a year ago.
 
Meanwhile, Canadian service center shipments of steel products increased by 5.7 percent in January 2017 compared to January 2016. Steel product inventories decreased 5.8 percent from January a year ago.
