In January 2011, the Ukrainian steel industry increased its natural gas consumption by 20 million cubic meters compared to December 2010 to 516 million cubic meters, with the average daily consumption of natural gas during the month totaling 16.65 million cubic meters - up from 16 million cubic meters in the previous month.
According to the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in 2010 the domestic steel industry's average daily consumption of natural gas amounted to 14.2 million cubic meters.
In addition, in January 2011, Ukraine's steel industry decreased its power consumption by 1.7 percent year on year to 3.271 billion kWh.
