Ugine & Alz commissions stainless steel plant

The world's second largest steel producer Arcelor announced today that its French unit Ugine & Alz started production at its new stainless steel slab plant, Carinox, on September 28, 2005. Carinox plant, which was designed to have an annual stainless steel production capacity of 1 million tons, was built in 26 months. The commissioning of the plant took place one month ahead of the schedule. An investment of €241 million was made in Carinox that will replace two smaller, non-integrated steel plants.
