Turkish construction industry turnover down 6.4 percent in Q2

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the second quarter of 2009, the turnover index in Turkey's construction industry (with base year 2005 = 100) decreased by 6.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In Q2 this year, the turnover index in building construction in Turkey fell from 155.3 to 149.9, down 3.5 percent, while the turnover index in civil engineering declined from 125.1 to 109.7, down 12.3 percent, both compared to Q2 2008.

Meanwhile, in the quarter in question, the production index in construction decreased by 21 percent year on year.

The production index in building construction in Turkey for the second quarter decreased from 126.0 to 90.9, down 27.8 percent, while the production index in civil engineering rose from 141.8 to 156.6, increasing by 10.4 percent, both compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
