Turkish basic metal industry operates at 74.8 percent in August

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) on September 10, the capacity utilization rate in Turkey's manufacture of basic metals in August was 74.8 percent, mainly due to lack of demand in local and export markets, compared to a capacity utilization rate of 84.6 percent in August 2008.

Meanwhile, in August this year the output of the domestic basic metal industry increased by 0.5 percent, raw material prices for the industry in question increased by 2.4 percent, while its sale prices increased by 3.9 percent, all compared to the previous month.

On the other hand, the output in the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey is forecast to decrease by 2.6 percent in September, while sale prices are expected to increase by 1.2 percent for this industry in the same month. The raw material prices for the manufacture of basic metals is foreseen to decrease by 0.2 percent in September.
