Turkey’s steel import volume down 21 percent in January-October

In October this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 16.1 percent to 1 million mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 6.3 percent to $840 million, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). 

In the month of October, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 38.7 percent to 208,000 mt, while its flat steel imports increased by 19.1 percent to 666,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In October, total long steel product imports were down by 10.8 percent to 74,000 mt, year on year.

In October, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 165 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 191 percent in the same month of 2018.

In the first ten months of this year, the country’s steel imports decreased by 21 percent to 10.1 million mt and the value of these imports went down by 25.2 percent to $8.4 billion, both on year-on-year basis.

In the January-October period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports declined by 37.2 percent to 2.6 million mt, while its flat steel imports decreased by 9.6 percent to 6.1 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 882,000 mt, falling by 23.3 percent year on year.

In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 161 percent of its steel import volume, as compared to 126 percent in the same period of 2018.
