According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in December 2011 Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.7 billion, increasing by four percent year on year and remaining almost unchanged compared to November. Iron and steel ranked third among the most imported products of the country. In December, imports of articles of iron or steel fell by 4.7 percent compared to December 2010 and were up 10.75 percent month on month, amounting to $206 million.
Meanwhile, in 2011 the country's iron and steel imports stood at $20.4 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $2.5 billion, increasing by 26.7 percent and up 28.2 percent respectively, both compared to 2010.
