Turkey’s steel billet exports fall in October

According to the data provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in October this year Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 144,556 metric tons, decreasing by 67 percent year on year and down 18.6 percent compared to the previous month. In September, Turkey's steel billet exports had recorded a 99 percent increase from the previous month. Meanwhile, in October the revenue generated by Turkey's steel billet exports totaled $108.95 million, decreasing 57.85 percent compared to October 2010 and down 14.6 percent month on month.

Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of 2011 Turkey's steel billet exports declined by 33.7 percent, dropping to 1.97 million metric tons, while the revenue for these exports stood at $1.34 billion, down by 16.4 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.

In the period in question, Turkey's steel billet exports to Saudi Arabia decreased by 12.8 percent, while its steel billet exports to Egypt increased by 58.25 percent, both compared to the same period last year. Italy's steel imports from Turkey increased by 241.4 percent in January-October on year-on-year basis.
