Turkey’s scrap imports up 12 percent in January-July

In July this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 6.12 percent year on year to 1.9 million metric tons and was up 3.8 percent compared to June, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $672.7 million, up 20.11 percent year on year and rising by 2.8 percent month on month.

In the first seven months of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 12.7 million mt, up 12 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 43 percent to $4.44 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 2,133,746 mt of scrap from the US, up 12.71 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 1,894,318 mt in the given period, up 17.69 percent year on year.
