Turkey’s scrap imports rise 29.4 percent in July over June

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in July this year Turkey's steel scrap imports rose by 29.4 percent from June, amounting to 2.2 million metric tons.

The data shows that, in the given period, the average import price of Turkey's steel scrap stood at $463/mt.

Meanwhile, in the first seven months of the year Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 12.18 million mt, up 21.28 percent compared to the same period last year. In the first half, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 3.1 million mt, while Romania and Russia followed the US with 1.4 million mt and 1.2 million mt respectively.
 
In July, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 653,718 mt, up 44.6 percent, while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey amounting to 312,846 mt, up 42.5 percent, both compared to June. In the given period, the UK exported 198,133 mt of steel scrap to Turkey, up 31.2 percent, Romania exported 176,826 mt to Turkey, down 23.2 percent, Belgium exported 140,748 mt to Turkey, up 374.7 percent, while Turkey imported 158,366 mt of steel scrap from the Netherlands, up 67.2 percent, 95,908 mt from Germany, down 3.7 percent, and 33,133 mt from Bulgaria, down 48 percent - all compared to June this year.
