Turkey’s scrap imports rise 19.22 percent in May over April

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in May this year Turkey's steel scrap imports rose 19.22 percent from April, reaching 1.74 million metric tons.

The data show that, in the given period, the average import price of Turkey's steel scrap stood at $451/mt.

In May, the US was Turkey's top scrap import source with 508,909 mt, up 69 percent, while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey reaching 226,359 mt, up 203 percent. In the given period, the UK exported 156,688 mt of steel scrap to Turkey, up 19 percent, Romania exported 191,465 mt, up 11 percent, and Belgium exported 68,503 mt to Turkey, down 44 percent, while Turkey imported 48,450 mt of steel scrap from the Netherlands, down 56 percent, 28,243 mt from Germany, down 59 percent, and 33,365 mt from Bulgaria, down 32 percent - all compared to April.
