Turkey’s scrap imports continue to decline in January

Turkey's scrap imports have continued to decline due to the slowdown of performance in the Turkish steel industry, according to the report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In January this year, Turkey's scrap imports declined by 29.5 percent to 9.56 million mt, with a value of $437 million, down 42.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In the given month, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries declined by 18 percent to 830,000 mt, while its scrap imports from the US decreased by 61.1 percent to 185,000 mt, both year on year.

In January, Turkey's largest source of imported scrap was the United Kingdom with an increase of 143.6 percent to 425,000 mt, while scrap imports from Russia reached 215,000 mt, down 14.8 percent, scrap imports from Belgium totaled 104,000 mt, down 39.2 percent, and scrap imports from Romania declined by 36.7 percent to 83,000 mt, all year on year.
