Turkey’s scrap import volume rises by 18.4 percent in 2017

In 2017, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 18.4 percent to 20.9 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $6.1 billion with a 55 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of 2016, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

Last year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 21.2 percent to 10.6 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 16.5 percent to 3.8 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 2.6 million mt, down 7.8 percent, all on year-on-year basis.

In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 61.5 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 18.1 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12.5 percent.
