Turkey’s scrap import volume rises by 18 percent in January-November

In the January-November period of 2017, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 18 percent to 18.9 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $5.5 billion with a 53.8 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of 2016, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the January-November period last year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 25 percent to 11.8 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 6.8 percent to 3.3 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 2.4 million mt, down 11.4 percent, all on year-on-year basis.

In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 62.1 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 17.4 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12.8 percent.
