Turkey’s Ministry of Environment and Urbanization has announced that the examination and evaluation process of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) application made by Turkish steelmaker Kroman Çelik for its planned capacity increase project for its port facilities in Kocaeli has begun.

Within the scope of the project, which has an investment cost of TRY 350 million ($18.4 million), the company will build a 255-meter-long and 32-meter-wide dock and increase its port handling capacity from 60,000 dwt to 80,000 dwt.

The given project will be carried out in line with Kroman’s rolling mill and meltshop capacity increase and modernization project, which aims to increase its annual liquid steel production to three million mt and its annual hot rolling capacity to 3.25 million mt.

When a positive decision is taken at the end of the environmental impact assessment process, the company plans to complete the construction within 12 months.
