In October this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 981,346 metric tons, rising 3.3 percent month on month and doubling compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to $69.5 million, falling 5.44 percent month on month and up 44.34 percent year on year.
In the January-October period, Turkey imported 8.5 million mt of iron ore, up 24.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the value of these imports decreased by 20.7 percent year on year to $698.2 million.
In the January-October period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 4.01 million mt, up 51.49 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 1,322,341 metric tons, up 0.26 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 1,224,356 metric tons, down 7.33 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
