Turkey’s billet exports climbs 150 percent in February

According to the preliminary data released by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in February this year Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 184,951 metric tons, decreasing by 25.46 percent month on month and climbing by 150.88 percent compared to February 2009. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $82.18 million, increasing by 195.57 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, but down 23.36 percent over January.

In February, the average export price of Turkish steel billet was $444/mt, up $12.18/mt or 2.82 percent from January levels, and indicating an increase of $67/mt or 17.82 percent compared to February 2009.

On the other hand, in the first two months of 2010, Turkey's steel billet exports rose by 118.89 percent year on year to 397,166 mt, totaling a value of $173.99 million, up 137.94 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
