Turkey’s average billet export price up $30/mt in September over August

In September 2009, Turkey's billet export volume decreased for the second month in a row. Meanwhile, the average export price in the month in question showed an increase of $30/mt compared to August levels.

According to the preliminary data released by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in September Turkey's total steel billet exports amounted to 211,900 metric tons, decreasing by 6.4 percent month on month, and down 10.97 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $91.63 million, down 61.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and slightly increasing by 0.37 percent over August this year.

In September, the average export price of Turkish steel billet amounted to $432/mt, up $30/mt or 7.23 percent from August levels, but indicating a decrease of $578/mt or 57.21 percent from $1,010/mt in September 2008.

On the other hand, in the January-September period of the current year, Turkey's steel billet exports slid 28.44 percent year on year to 1.55 million mt, totaling a value of $616 million, down 66.87 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
