Turkey starts rebar supply for the UAE new airport project

The recent developments on the UAE front are evidencing that the previously relayed news by SteelOrbis regarding existence of the tendency by the UAE to prefer the Turkish producers/exporters for the supply of reinforcing bars in the airport project. The new airport project was awarded to the Laing O'Rourke (UK) – Al-Nabudah (UAE) Consortium. A total purchase of 450'000 mts of reinforcing bars is projected under the framework of the tender. According to recent reports SteelOrbis achieved, 50'000 mts of this total has already been purchased. The forthcoming purchases to be made by the UAE are expected to give a relief to the Turkish producers with their worries about the winter season. The airport project is scheduled to complete in 2004. Additionally, the possibility of a further 150'000 mt purchase is also mentioned, for usage in the related projects such as connection roads to the airport.
