According to an announcement published in the country’s Official Gazette, Turkey has decided to postpone the imposition of the increased import duties on flat steel products again. The additional duties will now enter into force on May 1 instead of April 1. The increase in duties was originally planned to enter into force on March 1. However, the imposition was postponed to April 1, as container housing construction and additional HRC demand emerged as a result of earthquakes on February 6.

The import duty on non-alloy hot rolled coil has been increased from nine percent to 15 percent, while the duty on alloyed hot rolled coil has risen from six percent to 13 percent. The import duties of 9 percent, 10 percent and 15 percent on plate have been raised to 15-20 percent, while non-alloy cold rolled coil attracts a 17 percent import duty instead of 10 percent, as SteelOrbis previously reported. The duty on both hot rolled and cold rolled stainless steel coils remains unchanged.
