In the afternoon of November 2, an accidental breakage of electricity lines at the Tangshan Jiangjiayin transformer substation in northern China caused a serious interruption of power supply, leading to production shutdowns or partial shutdowns for enterprises in Tangshan. Emergency repair work began immediately and normal power supply is scheduled to be restored by November 18.

Due to the accident, the blast furnaces of various semis producers are reported to have been closed down. Xinrong, Jianyuan and many other mills have continued production with only one or two small blast furnaces. It is thought that this month's steel production will be reduced by one third of its expected level.

Meanwhile, steel strip production has been greatly affected by the accident. In Tangshan, most steel producing mills have shut down their steel rolling lines. All the steel strip rolling lines of Jinxi, Jianlong, Ganglu and other mills have ceased production operations, while Ruifeng partially closed their rolling lines. As a result, the November steel strip output in Tangshan is expected to drop sharply.
