On Tuesday, TransCanada Corporation announced that it will design, build, own and operate the Coastal GasLink project--an estimated $4 billion pipeline that will transport natural gas from the Montney gas-producing region near Dawson Creek, British Columbia to the recently-announced LNG Canada liquefied natural gas export facility near Kitimat, British Columbia. The project is a joint venture led by Shell Canada Limited, with partners Korea Gas Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and PetroChina Company Limited.
The pipeline will consist of 700 kilometers of large diameter pipe, and will have an initial capacity of transporting in excess of 1.7 billion cubic feet of gas per day. About 2,000 to 2,500 direct construction jobs are expected to be created over a two to three year construction period.
