ThyssenKrupp is pleased about termination of S201

Likewise many steel producers declaring their opinions regarding the termination of US S201 measures which were found to be violating WTO (World Trade Organization) trade rules, ThyseenKrupp Steel of Germany reported that they are very much pleased by President Bush's decision. The company's sales affected by US' measures, in 2002/2003, account for 1-2% of its €12 billion total sales with €200 million. During the implementation of the S201 measures, a total of 225'600 tons were exempted with 137'000 tons granted to ThyssenKrupp Steel in November last year and 88'600 tons at the end of March this year. According to the company's statement, their concern is now focused on talks with the OECD with regard to an international agreement to reduce state subsidies and global overcapacity. Besides, they requested authorities in the US steel industry the continuation of their restructuring activities in the industry, instead of applying for various other trade relief programs as in the past.
